After announcing the iPad Mini with a new OLED display yesterday, Apple is back today with the 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro.
The M6 MacBook Pro still starts at $1,999, while the 16-inch still offers M5 Pro or M5 Max chip configurations. The M6 chip includes a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, and dual 16-core Neural Engines. There are no other variants, at least for the 14-inch MacBook Pro. This entry-level model also tops out at 32GB of RAM, with 24GB and 16GB as the other options. Upgrading to 32GB of RAM costs $400, which isn’t too shabby, since many PC makers charge $600 for the same upgrade.
Apple says you still get 24 hours of battery life, plus “next-level AI capabilities.” The company claims up to 25% faster performance for on-device AI workloads, like LLM prompt processing, than the M5.
“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users — from college students, to business professionals across every industry, to multidisciplinary creators doing it all on one device,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering.
New iMac gets the M6 treatment too
Apple is also introducing the iMac with a new M6 chip. It comes in two versions: a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU model with two Thunderbolt ports, and a four-Thunderbolt-port model with the full 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU configuration. These start at $1,499 and $1,699, respectively.
As for RAM, both models start with 16GB, with 24GB available, and 32GB available only on the four-Thunderbolt-port model. It still comes in all of the usual colors: blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green, and silver.
Pre-orders for the new M6 MacBook Pro and the M6 iMac start tomorrow at 10:10 AM PT, and it’ll ship on November 6. This matches the pre-order and shipping date for the iPad Mini OLED announced yesterday.
