Apple’s annual September event witnessed the launch of the new iPhone 18 Pro and its first foldable, the iPhone Duo. The latter will hit store shelves later this month. The tech world is now moving its attention towards Apple’s home products, which might debut on October 13. However, it seems there’s more. A new leak has now revealed the release date of the OLED MacBook Pro.
Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro release date could be inching close
The source of the leak is Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who, in his first-ever Power On podcast, said Apple might debut the long-awaited 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with touch-enabled OLED displays in October or November this year. “Apple, I believe, will introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this fall, as early as October,” he said. “It could slip to November, but as early as October.“
Apple is reportedly testing the laptops with macOS 27.2, which is currently in beta. The stable version might be released towards the end of October. So there are chances the touch-screen MacBook Pro models will become official later this month.
Besides the OLED upgrade, the upcoming laptops might feature Apple’s existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. They could arrive with a thinner design and a Dynamic Island in place of a notch. Windows laptops have offered touch-screen and OLED capabilities for years. Apple is just catching up, which should give enough reasons for users to upgrade.
Their branding is not clear
A few years ago, Gurman reported that Apple was considering cellular Macs that could connect directly to 5G or LTE without using an iPhone’s hotspot. This has led some Apple fans to hope that the upcoming touchscreen MacBook Pro models could feature Apple’s custom C1X or C2 modem. However, this is just speculation.
Either way, the touch-screen MacBook Pro models could sit above the regular 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, which will reportedly be refreshed with M7 Pro and M7 Max chips in 2027. That said, it’s not clear whether these touch-screen models will have MacBook Pro branding or if Apple will choose a different name
