Conversational AI tools feel like they are taking over the tech world, but when you look at actual web visits, traditional search engines are still holding a massive lead. Fresh data from OneLittleWeb.com shows that search engines brought in 162.19 billion monthly web visits in June 2026, while AI chatbots pulled in just 8.26 billion.
That puts search engines roughly 19.6 times ahead of the entire chatbot category, leaving a monthly difference of about 153.93 billion visits. The figures come from OneLittleWeb’s dynamic dashboard analysis tracking 10,171 global websites, drawing on SEMrush and Ahrefs browser traffic estimates out of 283.65 billion overall network visits.
Search still claims over half of all web visits
Looking at the broader picture, traditional search accounted for 57.2% of all captured web visits in the study. Meanwhile, the entire AI chatbot space represented roughly 2.9%.
Google remains the undisputed heavy hitter here. The big G generated 98.19 billion monthly visits on its own. That makes the popular search engine’s audience 18.5 times larger than ChatGPT’s 5.32 billion visits and nearly 11.9 times larger than all 231-plus tracked AI chatbots put together. When you combine Google and YouTube, the two platforms generated 150.41 billion visits, capturing 92.74% of all search engine traffic in the dataset.
ChatGPT leads the AI pack despite a slight monthly drop
Even with search dominating the numbers, AI chatbots are still handling massive traffic volume. OpenAI’s ChatGPT holds about 64.4% of all chatbot traffic with its 5.32 billion visits. Google’s Gemini came in second with 1.14 billion visits, followed by Anthropic’s Claude at 967.91 million.
Both sides saw small month-over-month traffic dips in June 2026. Search engines slipped 2.53% and AI chatbots dropped 5.78% (a loss of roughly 507.43 million visits). As OneLittleWeb co-founder Sujan Sarkar pointed out, this is not just a straight race where chatbots replace search bars. Search engines are actively building AI directly into search results, blending conversational answers into traditional links.
