Google has just started to roll out the software update for Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3, and if you’re part of the Android Beta Program then this software will be available to you if you have a compatible device. Speaking of compatible devices, Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 is also available via system images for the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and the Pixel 10a.
Unlike the previous Android Beta update, there appears to be more changes available in this build that users can play with. For example, the new version of the Quick Settings panel that allows users to edit and re-order segments of the panel is part of this update. This particular change will let you move things like the brightness bar to the bottom of the panel and move the Now Playing card to the top. Or you can move the Now Playing card to the middle and the panel with the Quick Settings tiles to the bottom. There are several other notable changes as well.
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 introduces more blur effects to the system UI
One of the other big changes that users will notice is the additional blur effects. As noted by Google’s Mishaal Rahman on X, the blur effects have been extended to a few new spots. Specifically on the lock screen. Instead of a static color with 100% opacity, the fingerprint sensor, the notifications, and the lock screen shortcuts are all blurred, giving them a translucent effect so you can see the wallpaper underneath.
New theme options have been added as well. You can adjust the hue and choose from an additional four color combos in the themes section. Google is also adding some multitasking improvements to foldable devices, like adding an app handle to windows you open up so you can more easily drag the window around and use it to drag the window into fullscreen. There are some new protections against call forwarding fraud too.
