Apple introduced Siri AI today; it’s the revamped Siri that we’ve been waiting years for. Unfortunately, those in the EU and China will have to wait a bit longer.
Apple says that “due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple will not be able to ship Siri AI in the European Union with the release of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.” Apple goes on to say that “over the past several months, EU regulators did not accept any of Apple’s proposed solutions to bring Siri AI to the EU while safely supporting other virtual assistants.”
China is also not getting Siri AI right away. Apple says that Siri AI and the other Apple Intelligence features “will not be available in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements.”
Though it’s pretty clear that Apple is more upset with the EU than China, as Apple did throw some shade at the EU in its press release. While China only got a footnote in the Siri AI announcement press release, and not get a separate release.
Siri AI is Apple’s new conversational Siri that might finally work
Two years after Apple first showed off this new Siri at WWDC, it looks like we are finally going to get the big Siri glow-up we’ve been waiting for. It’s shipping in the first iOS 27 beta that started rolling out to developers today.
Though it is a bit limited right now, as it is only available in English. Apple says that it will be adding more languages in the near future.
Apple is using its own foundational models on Siri AI, though it does look like Google had a helping hand here. Apple did say that they were also using Google’s Gemini models on its devices for Apple Intelligence, but nothing specific about Siri AI. We’ll have to see how good or bad this glow-up really is.
