Apple offers two smartwatch lineups: the standard Watch series and the more premium, feature-rich Ultra series. The latter is aimed at athletes and professionals, but also has something that caters to casual buyers as well. According to a new report, the Apple Watch Ultra 4 could arrive with a complete redesign and get a new blood pressure monitoring feature.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 may get a complete redesign and blood pressure monitoring
Digitimes reports that Apple will add a new high blood pressure notification feature to the Apple Watch. This uses the optical heart-rate sensor on the back to analyze how blood vessels respond to each heartbeat. It’ll send alerts when it detects an abnormal pattern. This feature is reportedly under FDA review.
It’s not quite clear how it differs from the Hypertension Notifications feature that Apple debuted with watchOS 26. This uses the optical heart sensor to analyze blood vessel responses over 30 days. According to DigiTimes, earlier Apple Watch models already supported blood-pressure sensing, with the new feature likely representing a more refined or clinically validated use of the existing hardware.
Apple’s next focus in health monitoring could be noninvasive blood-glucose tracking. This is one feature that the tech giant has been pursuing for years and is awaiting government approval.
New smartwatches will debut later this year
Additionally, the report aligns with last year’s DigiTimes report, which noted that at least one new Apple smartwatch model would feature a significant redesign. The sources in the supply chain pointed to a new sensor layout with eight sensors arranged in a ring on the back. The latest report goes further, describing it as a full redesign alongside the major upgrade to sensing capabilities.
Market observers cited by the report note that the redesign could boost Apple Watch shipments by 20% to 30% compared to 2025. The sensor upgrades are expected to significantly benefit Taiwan-Asian Semiconductor (TASC), Apple’s exclusive supplier for sensor components. The high-volume orders are likely to begin as early as July.
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 may debut alongside the Watch Series 12 later this year.Â
