YouTube Music seems to be experimenting with its user interface. It recently rolled out redesigned album art and a media player. Now, a new report claims YouTube Music is working on animated icons for playback controls. The play, pause, shuffle, and repeat icons may soon be revamped to provide a more immersive experience.
YouTube Music may soon get animated icons for playback controls
According to Android Authority, YouTube Music is testing animated playback–control icons in its mobile app. The following changes were found in YouTube Music app version 9.44.52. Internal animation files found in the app cover commonly used controls, including play, pause, shuffle, repeat, and track skipping. There also seems to be separate animations for switching between different repeat modes and turning shuffle on or off.
Developers are paying more attention to the play and pause button. The source uncovers animations for both transitions. It should make switching between the two states look smoother. Further, the animated icons are not limited to the music player. The discovered files also include animations for podcast controls.
That’s not all; the sleep timer may also get a new animation. The feature is currently available through the three-dot menu in the Now Playing interface. However, it is unclear whether Google plans to bring it directly to the playback screen.
Playback controls are about to get more immersive
While the files uncover new animations, the buttons on the app do not reflect them yet. In fact, there are no noticeable changes to the playback controls. This suggests Google is still internally testing the new icons.
For now, there is no word on when these changes will be rolled out to stable users. Since the animations were found in the app‘s internal files, they are still under development. It is not guaranteed that they will make it into a public release.
