XREAL is now turning its attention to a more budget-friendly pair of AR glasses, after wowing everyone with Project Aura at Google I/O last week.
Today, there are two announcements from XREAL. First up, they are announcing X by XREAL, or xbx for short. This is a new sub-brand from XREAL that mostly focuses on lower price points. While the XREAL 1S is a great pair of AR glasses, they are quite expensive at $499. xbx aims to solve that, and get more consumers in the door, and on the AR train.
The first product in the xbx lineup will be the a01. These will feature a 1600-nit HDR10 ultra-bright display, the brightest in their category.
xbx a01 glasses feature interchangeable frames, and a low price tag
What really sets the a01 apart from other XREAL glasses is the interchangeable frames. The a01 features a semi-transparent, light-weight body and a highly personalized interchangeable front-frame design. This allows users to switch between transparent and immersive viewing scenarios. While also allowing users to switch the front frame based on their outfit, mood, or personal style.
XREAL will also release the CAD files for xbx a01, so you can 3D print your own front-frame accessories based on personal preferences. Which is absolutely incredible for a device at this price point.
The a01 are also incredibly light, coming in at 62g. That’s a bit heavier than the Meta RayBans, but lighter than the RayBans Displays.
XREAL says that a common challenge for the entry-level AR market is that products “often feel repetitive or undifferentiated.” Well, a01 is definitely not that. The xbx a01 is for those who want a “pocket cinema” with them, everywhere they go.
The a01 AR glasses are available in China starting today, and are expected to launch in the US in July, starting at $299. That’s a solid $200 cheaper than the XREAL 1S, the company’s current cheapest pair of AR glasses.
