The best smartphones for mobile gaming usually have powerful hardware, and Xiaomi’s Redmi brand is entering into the mobile gaming market proper with a gaming phone called the Redmi K90 Max, which now has an official launch date with the company having confirmed its arrival via social media. Redmi isn’t generally a brand that’s been associated with mobile gaming in an official capacity. That isn’t to say that there haven’t been some Redmi phones that were capable of handling mobile games. The K90 Max, however, will be Redmi’s first phone that comes with a bunch of dedicated mobile gaming features.
Such as a 165Hz display and an active cooling fan. It’s not clear yet what other gaming features the phone might have. For instance, phones like the REDMAGIC 11 Pro come with ultrasonic trigger buttons that make playing games feel more like you’re using a controller. As for the chip, the current speculation is that it comes powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset that includes a D2 discrete graphics chip.
Xiaomi has teased the Redmi K90 Max launch date as April 21
According to official posts on Weibo from Xiaomi President Lu Weibing, the Redmi K90 Max will be launching on April 21 at 7PM local time in China. Like other Redmi phones, the Redmi K90 Max is due to be a China-only release. The company has not made any announcements about bringing the phone to regions outside of China thus far.
Still, that doesn’t mean it will be impossible to get a hold of it if you live in a different region. Amazon and other online retailers sell international versions of many different phones. For example, it’s possible to buy several different Redmi phones on Amazon right this moment. So it’s possible that customers outside of China will have a chance to pick this device up. It likely wouldn’t work on your mobile carrier, but it would be fine for mobile gaming.
In addition to the launch date, Weibing has also posted some marketing materials mentioning the 6.83-inch display with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits.
