According to a new report, Xiaomi’s next flagship foldable smartphone could be fueled by Xiaomi’s very own processor. The device in question is the Xiaomi 17 Fold, and the report comes from Ximitime. The info is based on what the source spotted in Mi Code.
The Xiaomi 17 Fold could utilize Xiaomi’s very own chip, the Xring O3
According to the source, the Xiaomi 17 Fold will be fueled by the Xiaomi Xring O3 processor. This phone is allegedly hiding behind the Q18 code, internally, and it’s codenamed ‘Lhasa’.
The device’s model number was also mentioned, it’s 2608BPX34C. That model number was spotted in the IMEI database a while back. Now, the source is saying that the aforementioned model number is connected to the Lhasa/Q18 device, but we cannot confirm it.
In any case, that device has been spotted alongside references to the Xring O3 SoC. That is allegedly Xiaomi’s upcoming processor, and it’s expected to succeed the Xring O1 chip, which arrived last year.
This smartphone could become official in July
Now, regarding the Xiaomi 17 Fold. According to a report from last month, the device has been delayed until July. It was expected to arrive sooner than that. This way, it could directly rival the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its wider alternative.
At this point in time, we really don’t have any specifics about the phone. All we know is that it will be a book-style foldable, and apparently use Xiaomi’s very own chip. We don’t even know if it will be a wider type of foldable or not.
We’re also not particularly confident that this phone will find its way to global markets. We do hope that Xiaomi will push it to markets outside of China, but at the moment, things don’t look that way. It remains to be seen. We’ll apparently get more info in July.
