This year, Qualcomm is expected to launch two flagship chipsets. This comes in the form of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a Pro version. Now, according to the latest rumors, Xiaomi is expected to use the chip in its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro Max smartphone.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Max chip revealed
This tidbit comes from tipster Digital Chat Station in a post on Weibo. According to the post, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro as its chip of choice. The post also reveals a few extra details. This includes the screen size, which stands at 6.9-inches. It will also feature symmetrical dual speakers and a large X-axis motor. Apparently this will help deliver better motor vibration feedback.
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. In fact, there are rumors suggesting Xiaomi will continue using the same naming scheme as Apple, and could release a Pro and Pro Max version of the phone. More recent rumors reveal that the phones could also adopt a 200MP periscope telephoto camera.
Battery life is also commendable, standing in at 7,000mAh. Granted, it’s not as big as the more recent 10,000mAh phones we’re seeing, but it’s still a step up. Especially when you compare it against other flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which has a paltry 5,000mAh battery. There’s no word on RAM yet, which brings us to our next point.
Will Xiaomi adopt LPDDR6 RAM?
According to the rumors, one of the features of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is that it supports LPDDR6 RAM. However, the ongoing memory crisis means that using LPDDR6 RAM will only add to the cost of the phone. This is why there are reports suggesting that phone makers will only use the Pro model for its top-of-the-line models. In Xiaomi’s case, it would be the Pro Max model.
However, the reports also claim that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro could also support older/slower memory, like LPDDR5. This means that Xiaomi could save on that front if they don’t want to take advantage of the chip’s LPDDR6 support. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see. But based on what know so far, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is shaping up to be one of the best Android phones of 2026.
