Windows 11 is causing some nefarious issues for gamers due to a series of bugs that started popping up after users downloaded and installed the most recent optional update for the operating system. Windows 11 26H2, which isn’t a mandatory update that users absolutely have to install, is said to be causing game and app crashes, system boot failures, and more.
Microsoft has already reportedly confirmed this issue with the update, noting that it may cause some crashes in some games and apps, and isn’t necessarily going to affect all users who install it. However, there are a large number of users reporting having these problems on the Fallout: New Vegas subreddit, which is one of the games that is reported to be affected by the software. Wardogs is another popular game that is reportedly affected.
Microsoft confirms they’ll fix this Windows 11 bug affecting gamers with the next update
Gamers can avoid this bug by simply rolling back the update and removing it so that they’re back on the previous version of the OS. However, some users do report that removing the update did cause the PC to get stuck at the boot screen with the PC brand’s logo. That user reports that they had to do a clean install in the end just to get things back to working order.
Microsoft does also confirm that it will be fixing this series of bugs that cause crashes with the next update. According to the initial report, audio decoding is at least part of the reason for these game and app crashes. “Microsoft has quietly confirmed that some apps and games that use Windows’ built-in AC-3 (Dolby Digital) audio decoding could crash abruptly when you increase the volume, change audio settings, or use certain audio features,” the report states.
Microsoft doesn’t mention when the update that fixes this new bug will be released, only that it will share more information when it’s available.
