Smart locks have truly come a long way since the first one I installed, nearly a decade ago. I’ve been using the Veise VE027-H for about a month now, and I have to say it’s been one of the most seamless experiences I’ve had with a smart home product. From installation to usage, it just works. That’s what you want from a smart home product; it’s not something that should become an all-day project just to get it installed in your home. In fact, the Veise VE027-H took me just 10 minutes to install, and it probably would have been quicker if I hadn’t needed to drill a larger hole in the door frame.
After a month with the Veise VE027-H, I can say it’s one of the most seamless smart home experiences I’ve had. Ten-minute install, an easy app, and at $139 it nails the basics without any of the gimmicks.

Installing the Veise VE027-H Smart Lock
Installation was pretty simple. Pop out the old deadbolt from your door, and then pop in the Veise VE027-H. It does require AA batteries, which I didn’t expect, since the other smart locks I’ve used lately have had their own rechargeable batteries. So after looking around for some AA batteries for this lock, I popped the lock and was all set.Â
Syncing with the app was also pretty seamless. Add it to the app, set up your fingerprints, add a PIN or two, and you’re ready to go.Â
Veise includes a handle set you can install on your door. It looks quite nice, but since my door is metal, I wasn’t able to install it. That said, the lock looks really good, with a number pad and a spot for the key fob in case you don’t want to use a PIN or fingerprint to lock or unlock your door.Â
The App is Simple and Easy to Use
Perhaps more important than the actual installation of a smart lock is, how easy the app is to use. Setup was incredibly easy, it only took me a couple of minutes to get the lock setup and paired within the app. From there, I was able to start adding fingerprints, and PIN codes.Â
On the main screen of the app, you have options for PIN code, Fingerprint, or using the NFC card that comes with the lock, with a giant button to lock or unlock the door in the center of the page. You can also check out the activities, and see what’s been going on, when it was unlocked and when it was locked, also by who.Â
The KK Home app also has a feature to automatically lock the door. You can set this to to lock after 10 seconds, all the way up to 3 minutes. I have it set to about 30 seconds, which is the default, and it works pretty well. My only complaint here is that this does not have a sensor to know when the door is closed, and to automatically lock it. Instead, it’ll lock even when the door is wide open.Â
As with many smart locks, you can create a one-time PIN for guest access—ideal for children, family, pet sitters, or anyone needing temporary entry. Once used, the code automatically deactivates so you won’t have to worry about retrieving a physical key, effectively revoking their access.
The lock also offers additional PIN customization, such as setting recurring codes for specific recurring time slots or temporary duration-based codes. These flexible access options are perfect for houseguests staying the week or Airbnb visitors.
It’s a simple app that does what you need, without throwing in a bunch of unneeded features of options, and that’s something that I can really appreciate. Perhaps the best part about this smart lock is that there is no hub required. It has WiFi and Bluetooth built right in, so there’s no need to use a hub to get it connected to the internet. This results in the lock actually responding faster versus other smart locks I’ve used that do require a hub.Â
Using the Veise VE027-H Smart Lock
As is the case with any smart lock, you’ll want to have a backup in case the battery dies, power is out, or something else happens, that way you’re not locked out of your home. Thankfully, there is still a key slot to use the mechanical key that comes with the lock. You can also flip the deadbolt open or closed from the inside, instead of needing to use the app every single time you want to unlock the door.Â
The fingerprint sensor works pretty well. This lock is installed on the side door of the house, so it’s not something that gets used all that often. But when I need to, the fingerprint is pretty quick and accurate to unlock. The sensor sits right below the numberpad, which does have a material on it so that it’s hard for someone else to see what numbers are in your PIN code, if that’s how you opt to unlock your door. Finally, right in the middle there is a spot to place your NFC card for quick unlocking. Of course, the keyhole is at the bottom as well.Â
The Veise VE027-H has seamlessly integrated into my routine, I don’t even think about the fact that it is a smart lock. I just flip the deadbolt and open it to go out, or place my finger on the fingerprint sensor to go back inside. This is a very important aspect of any smart home product, it just works.Â
Should you buy the Veise VE027-H?
The big question here of course is, whether you should buy the Veise VE027-H, and I think that’s a resounding yes. Currently, the Veise VE027-H sells for around $139, making it relatively inexpensive as far as smart locks go. If you’re looking to make your home smarter, a smart lock is a great place to start. At this price, it’s hard to recommend not buying it, because like I said, it just works.Â
It’s not flashy, it’s not adding features that you’d probably never use, it has all of the basics and most importantly those basics work great. Which makes the Veise VE027-H a recommendation I can get behind.
