Droid Deck is an app that basically turns your Android phone or really any Android device into a Steam Deck, letting you access and play Steam games locally on your device, not through streaming from a linked PC that has Steam installed. It has a similar UI to Steam OS on the Steam Deck which gives it that Steam Deck look and feel, so you can take your Steam library with you but in a smaller form factor than the Steam Deck, since the Steam Deck doesn’t really fit in your pocket.
Games are played via a Proton layer just like with the Steam Deck, and the app is even capable of loading games quicker than before off of a microSD card, if your device supports using one for expandable storage that is.
The Droid Deck app now supports Xbox Game Pass
If getting access to your Steam games wasn’t enough, Droid Deck also now supports Xbox Game Pass, according to the app’s update information. As noted by Android Authority, this will support both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass versions, so you can access a wide library of games from either, and it runs games through a Proton layer just like with the Steam games you access.
Additionally, it’s being reported that Droid Deck will soon have support for itch.io games as well. Adding even more possibilities for gaming on Android devices beyond the mobile and cloud gaming spaces, or retro games using emulators. Droid Deck isn’t available on the Play Store which is going to limit some people giving it a try because of the lack of ease of use compared to Play Store installs. However, the app is available on GitHub where the apk can be downloaded and installed onto your device in a pretty straightforward process.
