TikTok has announced a new service called TikTok GO, which makes it easier for people to make in-app travel bookings. So far, TikTok users have had to go through multiple websites to figure out how to plan a trip to their favorite place in a clip they saw on the platform. However, the launch of TikTok GO is going to change as users can easily discover and book hotels, tours, and attractions without leaving the app.
TikTok’s new video lets you book places directly from videos
In a press release, TikTok mentioned that the TikTok GO service pops up lodging and things to do through videos, search, and location pages. Users can check everything in a single place, including details and availability, if they find a property they’re interested in, apart from making a booking. For the new functionality, the company has collaborated with Booking.com, Expedia, Viator, GetYourGuide, Tiqets, and Trip.com.
With the new feature, TikTok is turning its recommendation system into a shopping and transaction platform. It is aiming to help keep users engaged longer while creating new revenue opportunities for its future owners. Notably, the entire booking process for a place happens completely inside the TikTok app. So, you don’t need to switch to apps or a browser to make the booking.
“Every day on TikTok, millions of people discover where to eat, where to stay, and what to do next. TikTok GO connects that moment of inspiration directly to the businesses behind it, and that’s good for creators, good for local businesses, and good for communities”, said Adam Presser, CEO of TikTok USDS Joint Venture
It opens a new way for creators to earn commissions
Apart from helping users find bookings, this update brings a huge change for the people making travel content. The social-media tech giant’s new update mentions that when the creators post about a local tour or a restaurant, they can attach reservation links to their videos. If anyone books that specific class or guided museum walk, the creator of the content gets a piece of the sale.
The new TikTok GO service is currently available to all users in the United States who are 18 and older. The company may expand the same to other regions where it operates soon.
