Xbox head Asha Sharma is reportedly suggesting that Project Helix won’t be one hardware device, and will instead be multiple devices that users will be able to interact with. Microsoft officially announced Project Helix earlier this year and while some details are known about it, much of what it will bring to the table is still shrouded in mystery.
Sharma has shared some of the more broad details about the next-generation Xbox console. For example, it’s essentially a Windows PC that can play both Xbox console games and Windows PC games. It’s not clear what the UI will look like exactly, but some reports have speculated that Microsoft’s implementation of the Xbox Home Screen on Windows handhelds is what the console might offer. Sharma hasn’t confirmed any release dates or pricing yet, but she has said that Microsoft will be looking into ways to ensure that prices are reasonable, as they want more people to be able to play in this next generation. Sharma’s hints about multiple devices might be a way to make that happen.
Xbox Head Asha Sharma calls Project Helix a family of devices
Sharma doesn’t elaborate much on her statement, but in a recent interview with BBC, she states that Microsoft has “been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Helix.” Sharma followed that by saying that Microsoft would share more information on that soon.
The implication that Sharma is making, The Verge notes, is that Microsoft has more than one Project Helix Xbox device in the works. This sounds like a similar approach to what Sony has been rumored to be working on. Which is a PS6 console that would be the main hardware with the best performance, as well as a PS6 handheld device. Sharma doesn’t say how many Helix devices there are.
