The success of it reportedly led Apple to run low on A18 Pro chips sooner than expected. Now, a new report sheds light on the MacBook Neo successor, which will feature the current A19 Pro chip. This suggests a major upgrade.
MacBook Neo successor may feature a faster A19 Pro chip
The new details come from Tim Culpan, writing at Culpium. The source notes that before the MacBook Neo’s unexpected success created a new problem, Apple was only planning to have suppliers build a new Neo product next year, featuring the current-gen “binned” A19 Pro. It’s not very surprising that Apple would use a new chip in the next MacBook Neo, and the A19 Pro would be the obvious choice.
A new chip could make the MacBook Neo a big upgrade, even if Apple decides to retain the same design and other hardware. This is because it could deliver stronger CPU and GPU performance and offer better battery efficiency. It could also bring 12GB RAM, up from the current 8GB RAM.
Performance gains and battery efficiency
For what it’s worth, a jump in RAM could be a big deal, considering the current MacBook Neo’s 8GB RAM limitation has been widely criticized. A 50% increase in RAM should make Neo even better for tasks beyond web browsing. Gains in the performance department will further help with the cause.
While A19 Pro’s CPU sees only modest gains over the A18 Pro, the GPU has big gains, thanks to the addition of Neural Accelerators in every GPU core. For context, Neural Accelerators deliver up to 3x the performance for AI-centric GPU tasks. This applies to areas like Apple Intelligence features and also the upcoming revamped Siri. Lastly, the A19 Pro will also be more power-efficient. How much of a difference this will be over the current Neo is something we’ll know when it’s out.
