The last thing you probably want to happen if you’re enjoying some content on your Pixel phone is to hear a series of popping sounds that ruins the experience. They can be loud, break you out of the immersion, or just sound downright annoying. If you’re someone who really enjoys the narrative of the content you watch, popping sounds coming out of your speakers can also cause you to potentially miss important story beats. Then you have to rewind and re-watch.
It’s not a terrible inconvenience but it’s not fun to deal with either. Unfortunately, that appears to be what some Pixel phone owners are dealing with right now, as some report popping sounds coming from their phone speakers.
The issue with popping sounds on Pixel phones is surfacing across several models
It’s being reported by numerous users on Reddit through the official Google Pixel subreddit that several of Google’s Pixel phone models are experiencing this issue. It’s not just limited to older models or one model in particular. So far, affected Pixel phone models include the Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Some users report that loud popping or cracking noises can be heard from the speakers. Some are saying that the issue pops up only with specific apps or games. Other state it can be heard randomly with no rhyme or reason. What’s more, is that it doesn’t appear there’s an official fix yet.
However, some users have reported what seems like a temporary fix. You could try turning off adaptive sound, or disabling spatial sound, to see if those work. According to some users in the Reddit comments, these methods improved things. But as of now, Google seemingly hasn’t acknowledged the problem.
The Android Headlines Take
As someone who deals with this every so often with one of his gaming headsets upon powering it on, I know how frustrating it can be to have this sort of problem. Especially if you have the volume up. The popping sounds are loud, and that shock to your hearing is just never fun to experience. Hopefully, this is an issue that Google can figure out and fix soon.
