NVIDIA had confirmed its plans for a re-launch of the RTX 3060 GPU some time ago as a means to combat the rising prices of and sometimes dwindling supply of current generation GPUs. The RAM crisis, which has been going on for months (since late 2025) and continues to impact all sort of consumer electronics products, has forced many manufacturers to increase prices on just about everything that contains any RAM or storage or GPUs. This includes GPUs themselves.
The problem has only been compounded over the past several months as third-party resellers look to take advantage and grab what may be available. Then turn around and, you guessed it, resell the product at incredibly inflated prices. The scalping is an issue that people have been dealing with for a very long time. Having said that, it seems like it’s gotten worse for some with the RAM crisis, as prices are already increasing from that. Let alone inflated costs from resellers. NVIDIA has the answer though. Bringing back an old GPU for more than 5 years ago.
NVIDIA’s re-launch of the RTX 3060 GPU is already hitting some retailers
While some retailers appear to be carrying the new old GPU, others have yet to list any stock. Newegg, for example, has at least one RTX 3060 GPU on hand. A GIGABYTE Windforce 12GB RTX 3060 that goes for the low, low price of $479. In case you were wondering, yes that is more expensive than the RTX 3060 GPUs cost back when they launched. To make matters worse, you can currently buy an RTX 5060 for less money.
That being said, the RTX 3060 is supposed to be hitting online store shelves for around $339.99. Which was its original price point years ago. Finding one for that price may be tricky. Although it shouldn’t be. Given that you can buy the newer RTX 5060 GPUs at lower prices with little issue.
The Android Headlines Take
NVIDIA’s plan to manufacture more of the RTX 3060 GPUs and re-launch them feels like a half-baked idea that gives NVIDIA the optics of trying to tackle this solution, without actually doing anything that will solve the problem. It could focus more of its time on producing more of the RTX 50-series GPUs. Instead of a 5+-year old piece of hardware that will be outdated before too long.
That’s not to say the RTX 3060 isn’t a decent GPU. It is. I have owned and used one for years. However, it’s still older at this point. It’ll be a lot sooner with one of those than the 50-series cards when games no longer run smoothly. When you factor in the cost of the RTX 5060 at normal prices, you’re better off with the newer option.
