The introduction of the Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six wasn’t controversial. Stellantis first used it in the long-wheelbase Jeep Wagoneer models as a V8 equivalent, but not as a full replacement. When Ram revealed it would drop its Hemi V8s from the 1500 lineup in favor of the smaller-displacement turbo engine, public opinion started to shift, and it hasn’t been helped that the Charger is the only combustion-engine option.
