We finally have some more information about the XREAL AURA, the company’s Android XR headset that is set to release this Fall.
Today, Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset for XR devices, and we also know that it is powering the XREAL AURA, which will be landing on shelves this Fall. So far, this is the only device confirmed to be using this processor. Though we expect to see more coming in the near future.
Snapragon Reality Elite is going to power future Android XR devices, the company said. So we’d fully expect to see it in other devices very soon. Perhaps it’ll power the glasses with a built-in display that are coming next year?
XREAL has announced that AURA will be available this Fall, and beginning today, you can reserve your spot for $99 in the US, UK, and Japan. And if you do it in the next two weeks, you’ll get a $199 credit towards your purchase, instead of just the $99 credit.
XREAL is not giving us any other details other than the fact that AURA will be available this Fall (and they dropped the “Project” from the name). Last year, we got the Galaxy XR, and this year we’re getting XREAL AURA, with Android XR glasses next year with Gemini built in. Android XR is coming up pretty quickly.
The future of Android XR
From what we’ve heard from Qualcomm about the Snapdragon Reality Elite, it does definitely seem like it’s the future of Android XR, and is a huge improvement over the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 (definitely a huge improvement in the naming here).
When compared to the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, you’re looking at up to 160% higher NPU performance, up to 60% higher GPU performance, up to 20% higher CPU performance, and up to 20% longer battery life at the same workload.
