Android flagships have a choice between Qualcomm and MediaTek chips. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and MediaTek Dimensity 9500 are the current premium chips. Though Qualcomm Snapdragon chips can be pricey for Android OEMs, a new survey shows consumers prefer the Snapdragon chip when they’re buying their next flagship.
Qualcomm Snapdragon chips: the user favorite
The survey was conducted by Qualcomm itself, as reported by the Korean media outlet Chosun. However, it doesn’t mention the participant count or the name of the market research firm. The report says that respondents are three times more willing to pay for a Snapdragon SoC. In fact, they’re even ready to pay over a 16% premium for it.Â
This must be hard on Samsung, considering the tech giant is reportedly planning to cut down its chipset expense by bringing the Exynos 2600 to the Galaxy S26 series in 2026. Though it may not.
Respondents are three times more willing to pay for Snapdragon
While this is an interesting development, without knowing the exact participant count, it’s not accurate to generalize the consumers’ opinion on Qualcomm and Snapdragon worldwide. The survey also reveals that 84% of the participants believe that Qualcomm is the leader in the smartphone chip segment. Consumers may maintain this impression of the company for the foreseeable future.
Circling back to Samsung, it will still equip the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 on its Galaxy S26 models in the majority of regions. The reason for it is the deal it has with Qualcomm. It may have to pay a hefty fine if it fails to incorporate the chip. But if given a chance, Samsung is likely to pick the Exynos 2600 across all markets. But winning back consumers’ trust isn’t going to be easy. For other Android phone makers, the choice is between Qualcomm and MediaTek at all times.
