Spotify is constantly adding new features to its platform. Its latest quest is long-form magazines. Spotify is offering a wide selection of narrated long-form magazine articles from several popular publications to its audiobook library. The company says that it’s adding over 650 long-form articles from publications like Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, WIRED, Vanity Fair, and Pitchfork.
Spotify is bringing narrated magazine articles from popular publications to its audiobook library
At launch, all the pieces are in English only. Spotify says they will be available in all regions where Spotify audiobooks are available. The company has also apparently partnered with more publications, offering a curated collection of articles focused on topics like music and technology. Spotify says that the narrated articles were produced in-house by its Audiobook team. However, it’s unclear whether the narration was done by humans or AI.
“With Articles, we’re introducing long-form journalism in audio as a natural extension of the music, podcasts, and audiobooks people already come to Spotify for,” said Colleen Prendergast, Licensing Lead at Spotify Audiobooks. Prendergast adds that shorter formats could encourage users to engage more with books, particularly audiobooks in Spotify’s library over time.

Non-premium Users can also purchase the articles for $1.99 each
Each narrated article is under two hours long. Premium users can listen to them against their monthly audiobook allowance. For context, Spotify Premium subscription offers 15 hours of audiobook listening time per month. You can also purchase top-ups, such as Audiobooks+, a monthly add-on with higher listening time limits. Those who haven’t subscribed to Spotify Premium can also purchase the articles for $1.99 each.
This comes after the streaming giant announced various generative AI-focused features in recent times. One among them is allowing users to create personal podcasts within the app using their profile data and any uploaded files, like PDFs or links. Then there’s the ability to create covers and remixes of existing songs from Universal Music Group artists.
