Spotify has announced a new feature called the Running Mode, with personalized playlists. It is introduced for mobile app users subscribed to the platform’s Premium plans. It generates playlists that match the user’s music preferences and the current running stage. It also uses AI to provide audio cues at different stages of a run.
Spotify announces new Running mode with personalized playlists
Eligible users can access the new Running Mode through Spotify’s Fitness Hub. Moreover, users can also choose from 25 workout presets that include steady runs, interval runs, and pyramid sessions. They can also personalize workout duration, preferred beats per minute, and select the type of music they want to hear. After analyzing the user’s input, the platform creates a playlist that matches the pace and flow of the selected workout.
That’s not all; the new Running Mode also includes voice prompts. These guide the user through different parts of the run, such as the warm-up, higher-intensity sections, and cooldown. The audio cues are currently available only in English. It may support other languages in the coming weeks, but there’s no official confirmation of this.
The new feature reflects Spotify’s effort to integrate AI
Spotify said the new Running Mode builds on the AI playlist feature it has been developing over the past year. The company also said that many users are actively using AI to generate playlists on its platform. The active adoption of AI has helped the company build the new feature. Moreover, the feature reflects the firm’s efforts to expand its fitness features.
Earlier this year, the streaming giant added fitness content through a partnership with Peloton. Now, the new Running Mode offers personalized music with AI to make workouts more engaging. The new feature is currently available to Premium users on iOS in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.
