Spotify is expanding beyond music and podcasts with a new set of guided workout experiences in collaboration with Peloton. The audio streaming giant announced an expansion that integrates exercise routines directly alongside its music, podcasts, and audiobooks. It appears that the platform wants users inside the app for more of their daily routine, including exercise, apart from listening to music and podcasts.
The new partnership grants premium users access to equipment-free classes
Spotify users can now search for fitness content within the app to find curated playlists and exercise videos. Thanks to the new partnership with Peloton, Spotify’s guided workouts offer premium subscribers access to more than 1,400 ad-free, on-demand exercise classes. The content is available for different activities, including strength training, outdoor runs, yoga, and meditation sessions.
It’s worth mentioning that none of the aforementioned routines require any specialized equipment, making them available to users working out from home or while travelling. Spotify claims that nearly 70 percent of its premium users already engage in monthly exercise. By including established instructors directly on its platform, it now offers users familiar coaching voices.
“By bringing thousands of creators and partners like Peloton directly into our video and audio ecosystem, we are investing in a future where Spotify isn’t just where you spend your time—it’s where you go to build momentum”, said Roman Wasenmuller, Spotify’s Vice-President and Global Head of Podcasts.
Spotify’s free users can also stream customized playlists and creator content
It’s worth noting that while Spotify’s premium tier offers exclusive guided workout instructions, free users also benefit from the new announcement. The streaming platform offers customized content from various wellness creators such as Chloe Ting and Sweaty Studio. It shows how using Spotify to follow guided workouts, whether from Peloton or independent creators, can help people stay active.
You can find the new guided workouts by typing the word fitness into the main search bar to pull up the dedicated hub. The app also allows users to download specific sessions for offline use.
At the moment, Spotify is offering the new content primarily in English, with select guided workouts in Spanish and German. We can expect the company to add more language support in the coming months.
