A new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 report has just appeared, and it’s focusing on the phone’s weight and display crease. The information comes from Lanzuk, a tipster, who shared the information via Naver.
The tipster cites people who had their hands on the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Just to be clear, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be the name of the company’s upcoming wide foldable, not the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s successor. Its successor will allegedly arrive under the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra name.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 weight has been described as “unbelievable”
In any case, the report states that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 feels very light. In fact, the leaker calls the phone’s weight “unbelievable.” He believes it will be one of the phone’s main selling points. He never mentioned the exact weight, but an earlier rumor said the phone would weigh only 201 grams. As a reminder, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is extremely light too (for a foldable of its size), and it weighs 215 grams.
Lanzuk also touched upon the phone’s display crease. He says that the crease is better than the one on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra; in other words, less noticeable. Samsung is said to use a thicker UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which will help with minimizing the crease.
Samsung is doing its best to compete with the iPhone Ultra
The company seems to be doing its best to push out a very compelling phone to compete with the iPhone Ultra. The form factor does appeal to me personally, very much so. I feel like wide foldables are far better for productivity and make more sense. They’re better for watching videos, both horizontal and vertical; it only depends on how you rotate the phone. They’re also better for running apps side-by-side and thus multitasking. On top of all that, they make more sense when folded, as they’re more compact for one-handed use.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will not utilize silicon-carbon tech, however, and I am worried about battery life. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 did not exactly shine in that regard, and updates did not help; quite the contrary. That’s an area where Apple could have an edge.
