Snap wants to bring its new Specs AR Glasses to the enterprise market and is partnering with NVIDIA, AWS, and Salesforce to do it. The Specs, which were first shown off at AWE earlier this year, were officially announced last night in Beverly Hills.
Specs is a self-contained wearable computer, which explains why it is so thick and heavy. In fact, they have a Snapdragon processor on either side of the glasses. So there are two Snapdragon processors on board, which does help justify the $2,195 price tag here.
These also have a bright built-in display for each lens, making it easier to see everything. Most other competitors use a single display, typically in the right eye. This includes the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses that cost $799.
Snap is targeting the enterprise, versus the consumer market, with Specs
At this price, Snap wasn’t going to make inroads into the consumer market, so it’s smart for them to target the enterprise market. Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, said that NVIDIA has “an open-source XR AI platform that a number of businesses are already building on top of.” He also added that “the goal with both Salesforce and NVIDIA is to make it really easy for businesses to get the benefits of those agentic platforms.”
Spigel isn’t leaving out the consumer market, however, as the company is also debuting a new consumer-oriented AI service called Specs Intelligence. This is essentially a digital assistant that can perform tasks across AR glasses, iPhones, and Mac computers. The CEO said that Snap hasn’t yet determined specific pricing details, but it will include a free tier and “different price points” depending on usage. This is quite standard in the world of AI today.
Snap is aware of safety concerns with AI, and Spiegel has said that “these are concerns that have been raised for a long time.” Continuing by saying that it’s “really important that we coordinate an international and thoughtful response. It’s really important that regulators and policymakers consider actual potential harms rather than imagined harms, and so that’s why I think it’s going to be really important for a thoughtful and international group to really get together on this.”
