One of the improvements in iOS 27 is faster animations. This is supposed to help iPhones feel snappier and more responsive than before. However, it might be too fast for its own good. According to 9to5Mac, they discovered an iOS 27 bug that could temporarily freeze your iPhone.

According to the report, this iOS 27 bug will freeze your iPhone if it’s pulled off in a specific order. Basically, you swipe down from the top left of your screen to open Notification Center. Almost immediately after, before the animation is complete, you pull down from the top right corner to bring up the Control Center. Then when you try to dismiss the Control Center, you’ll notice your phone has frozen.
You’ll notice that you will be unable to swipe between home screens. Taps also don’t seem to work reliably within apps either. Now, if your instinct is to turn your phone on and off again, you’d be right. However, because the touch UI seems to have bugged out, you can’t even use the slider to power off your phone.
So now what?
Before you panic and think your phone is ruined, it’s not. It’s just a relatively harmless but annoying software glitch. This means that a quick restart of your phone is needed and everything will be back to normal.
But like we said earlier, because of the bug, turning off your phone the conventional way is impossible. In this case, you’ll have to force your phone to reboot. Assuming you own a modern iPhone, this is quite easy.
Press the volume up button once, press the volume down button once, and then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. After that you can let go and wait for your phone to boot up normally. After that’s done, your phone should be operating like usual again.
Also, another good thing about this bug is that it’s not exactly the easiest to pull off. 9to5Mac notes that there’s only a small window of time that you can activate this bug. This means that unless you’re swiping around super fast, you might not necessarily trigger it. Either way, hopefully Apple is aware about it and will fix it in a future update.
