Dummy units of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, and Wide Fold, aka Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, have just surfaced, courtesy of Sonny Dickson.. These dummy units do give us a great look at the size difference between the three phones.
Dummy units show us all three upcoming Samsung foldables side-by-side
Two separate images surfaced, and both show all three phones. In the first image below, they’re unfolded, and in the second, they’re folded. You can clearly see how different they are.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will practically keep the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s size. It’s the size and form factor we’re used to seeing from book-style foldables. The same goes for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, as it will be very similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 7, in both design and general form factor.
The company’s wide foldable is the novelty here. You can see it will offer a completely different form factor than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, despite the fact that it’s also a book-style foldable.
It will be a lot shorter and quite a bit wider in comparison. That goes for its design when it’s both folded and unfolded, of course. That means that its foldable display will cater better to people who watch landscape videos on their devices, and who love to run apps side-by-side.
We’ve seen wider book-style foldables before, but not as wide
If this form factor looks familiar, well, it’s because we’ve seen short and wide foldables before. OPPO was first, with the Find N and Find N2. Google followed with the first Pixel Fold. All of them dropped those form factors, however, and neither of those phones offered such a wide display aspect ratio.
I always thought that book-style foldables should go in that direction, as it keeps them compact for one-handed use, and you do get a notably wider foldable display to watch content on and whatnot. It simply felt more natural, as if you’re actually using a tablet.
Apple’s first foldable will be a wide foldable, and since then, we’ve seen reports that quite a few other companies are planning to release such devices as well. Samsung is one, but others like OPPO are also working on such devices for this year.
