Samsung just posted a pretty big tease ahead of its next Galaxy Watch launch, and it might be the most interesting thing the company has done with Samsung Health in years. The company announced a major overhaul to the Samsung Health app, and it’s rolling out starting June 8. The whole goal here is to turn the next Galaxy Watch into an actual proactive health partner, instead of a wrist gadget that just collects data and shrugs at you.
Honestly, this is something most smartwatches struggle with. They throw numbers at you and call it a day. Samsung is trying to flip that script with some genuinely useful AI-powered features.
What’s new in Samsung Health
Four headline features are coming with this update. First up is Vitals, which analyzes five overnight bio-signals when you wake up. We’re talking heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen. It compares those against your personal baseline and only pings you when something is actually off. No alert fatigue, no constant noise. Just useful stuff.
Then there’s Heart Health Score, which gives you a longer-term look at cardiovascular wellness. Daily Cardio Load helps you train smarter without burning out, and Fitness Index tracks your progress over time. The app’s interface has also been redesigned around five pillars, namely Sleep, Activity, Nutrition, Mindfulness, and Vitals, with that AI-powered Energy Score front and center.
There’s also a new Hearing Health feature, which monitors ambient noise around you through the watch and gives you personalized analytics to protect your ears. Useful if you’re commuting in a loud city, or you know, blasting music at the gym.
The timing here is interesting because it sets up what’s almost certainly coming at the next Galaxy Unpacked event next month. And we could see more of this on the Galaxy Fit 4 later this year. Samsung pretty much confirmed these features will debut on the next Galaxy Watch first, so if you’ve been holding out on upgrading, this might be the year to do it. And with Apple and Google both pushing harder into wearable health, Samsung clearly isn’t sitting back. The competition in the smartwatch space is heating up, and this update is Samsung’s way of saying it’s not done innovating just yet.
