The success of Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series and its recently announced foldables is making camera suppliers quite happy. Strong demand for these devices is translating to massive profits for component suppliers, not just camera suppliers.
According to a report from ZDNet Korea, six major camera module suppliers serving Samsung Galaxy devices recorded combined sales of $1.8 billion in the first half of the year, up nearly 6% from the same period a year ago.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ camera module business has seen a 5.8% year-over-year increase in operating profit, compared with 3.9% the year earlier.
Additionally, Cammsys returned to profitability in the first half of this year, with its improved results linked to a greater share of flagship and foldable camera module orders. Power Logics, another supplier that Samsung uses, swung even further into profitability, with a 28% increase in revenue.
This shows that suppliers involved in Samsung’s flagship phones are seeing higher profit margins than those supplying components for its Galaxy A series. A big reason for this is because of the smaller profit margins on those cheaper devices. Despite the Galaxy A being a much bigger volume seller for Samsung.
Despite criticism from the media, Samsung has had a great year with its flagship phones
The Galaxy S26 series and its new foldables all received a good amount of criticism from the media this year, including from yours truly. Despite this, Samsung is having great success with these six phones: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, Galaxy S26 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. That is, despite the price increase on most of these phones.
It shows that customers will buy what they want. It’s important to remember that the average upgrade cycle is around four years, far longer than for reviewers like myself, who upgrade virtually every year.
