Wear OS 7 was launched on the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 making Samsung’s latest smartwatches the first two options to come with the software out of the box, but now Samsung is ready to start testing it on the Galaxy Watch 8. The Wear OS 7 software with One UI 9 Watch is starting to roll out to the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic as part of the beta program.
This rollout of the beta software for Samsung’s watches from 2025 follows a recent push of the fifth Android 17 beta release that has started hitting the Galaxy S26 family of phones, which Samsung started rolling out to devices this week.
The Wear OS 7 beta update is only rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 8 in Korea
So far, the beta update is only hitting Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic devices that are in South Korea. Which means Samsung is rolling this out to devices in phases and region by region. The update was first spotted by Tarun Vats on Twitter, which was picked up on by Android Authority.
The update is just over 2GB in file size, 2,010.76MB to be specific, and it’s reportedly coming with the August 5, 2026 security patch. Since this is an update to Wear OS 7 with the One UI 9 Watch layer on top, Galaxy Watch 8 users will be able to start using features that come on the Galaxy Watch 9 that aren’t reliant on that watch’s hardware.
For example, the improved sleep management and the integration with Google Gemini, which also comes with the Gemini Raise to Talk function for more seamless interaction with it. Samsung Health also gets some improvements in addition to new watch face options, the Fitness Index, the Vitals feature, and more.
