The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is now getting the Android 17-based One UI 9.0 update in the US. That update started rolling out in Korea about a week ago, which was its initial rollout. Then, yesterday, it spread to Europe, and it didn’t take it long to reach the US.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is now getting an Android 17-based One UI 9.0 update
It is now rolling out to carrier-locked units in the US, but it will quickly arrive to unlocked ones as well, perhaps even as you’re reading this. The firmware number is F731USQU8HZIJ, and the October 2026 security patch is included.
The update will arrive on its own; your phone will let you know. You can, however, check manually if you want, and possibly speed up the process a bit. Go to Settings -> Software update -> Check for updates.
Another thing to note is that this is the last major Android OS update this phone will receive. It launched in 2023 with Android 13 on board, and Samsung promised 4 major Android OS updates for the device.
Quick Panel has been improved, new AI features have arrived, and more
This update does have some new features and functionality to offer. It brings a more customizable Quick Panel. You can now basically resize every element and adjust it the way you want. You have complete freedom.
Greater location transparency is also included, and new AI privacy alerts as well. Some other AI features are a part of the update, along with improved Samsung DeX and Samsung Notes.
Bixby is now better than ever, as it’s powered by LLMs to better understand natural language and remember conversational context. It’s backed by Perplexity, by the way.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will start getting the update in the US as well, possibly even at some point today. At the time of writing this article, however, only the Galaxy Z Flip 5 did.
