Foldable display shipments are expected to grow about 44% this year, after falling 12% last year. This is largely thanks to Apple and the new wide-foldable trend. As we’ve seen with Samsung already, and now with the iPhone Duo pre-orders, the wide foldables are what people really want. We’ll also see wide foldables from OPPO, HONOR, and a few other brands in the coming months.

This data comes from Omdia, which forecasts that “AMOLED display shipments for foldable smartphones in 2026 will increase to 29 million units, up 44% year over year.” The LTPO-based flexible AMOLED display market is also expected to grow significantly.
Omdia’s Principal Analyst of its Display research practice, Brian Huh, said, “Display shipments for wide-screen foldable smartphones are expected to account for 44% of total foldable panel shipments in 2026. This share is expected to surpass the 60% threshold in 2027 driven by the entry of additional Chinese makers into the market.”
Samsung is expected to take a chunk of that growth; in fact, if Omdia is correct, BOE, China Star, Tianma, and Visionox will have a smaller market share. Showing just how much Samsung Display is taking in the foldable market this year.
We knew Apple entering the market would rejuvenate foldables
While Android fans hate to hear it, Apple entering the foldable market means the market will finally grow considerably. Sure, Apple is late- about 7 years late- but that doesn’t matter. Apple has the clout to push this market out of niche status and into something everyone will carry around every day.
This is evident just by looking at this year’s foldable display shipments. Samsung has already seen great success with its Galaxy Z Fold 8; Xiaomi will likely see the same with its 18 Fold, and OPPO and HONOR will continue that trend when theirs get announced in the coming months.
