
The launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra also marked Samsung‘s entry into the silicon-carbon battery train. As expected, this sparked speculation about the cells in the brand’s future phones. A report today claimed that the company had already decided to use the technology in the S27 devices. Now, a subsequent report offers more specific details about the alleged battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra, hinting at a boost for the latter.
Silicon-carbon technology enables a long-awaited capacity jump
The latest leak comes from GalaxyClub. According to the leak, the Galaxy S27 Pro will run on a 5,087mAh rated cell, which Samsung will likely market as having a 5,200mAh typical capacity. On the other hand, the Galaxy S27 Ultra steps up to a 5,534mAh rated battery, translating to an expected typical rating of 5,700mAh or possibly even 5,800mAh
If those numbers hold up for release, the Ultra model gains roughly a 15% increase over the current Galaxy S26 Ultra‘s 5,000mAh cell. This jump marks a significant milestone for Samsung’s top flagship, which has stuck to a 5,000mAh limit on every Ultra generation since 2020.
For starters, silicon-carbon battery technology allows batteries to be built with higher density. This translates into larger capacities in less physical space. That said, Samsung is taking a more conservative approach compared to other Android brands. We have already seen multiple phones that easily exceed 6,000mAh.
Faster chips and updated cameras complete the package
Adding higher battery capacity directly addresses growing competition from international rivals pushing larger battery designs, but the energy gains won’t come from silicon alone. The Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra lineup could pair these larger batteries with efficient 2nm processors. As usual, you can expect Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon platform in the US and a portion of Exynos-powered phones for other regions.
On the camera side, early details point to upgraded 50MP ultrawide and telephoto sensors. Users could also get an updated 16MP front camera that may sport a square sensor design.
Full specs like main camera sensors and display details remain under wraps ahead of an expected Q1 2027 release window. But in the meantime, switching to silicon-carbon cells gives Samsung’s upcoming flagships the foundations for potentially better daily endurance.
