If you recently picked up Samsung’s top-tier flagship and noticed an annoying reddish tone on your display, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Samsung has officially addressed the issue, confirming that the weird red tint on some Galaxy S26 Ultra units is purely a software calibration glitch rather than a permanent hardware defect.
A software calibration error, not broken hardware
Complaints first surfaced when users noticed a distinct rectangular patch showing a color balance shift right in the center of their screens. Initial investigations linked the issue to specific usage conditions, such as prolonged exposure to intense lighting at maximum brightness and interaction with the phone‘s new built-in Privacy Display feature.
Now, Samsung is putting speculation to rest via an official notice on its Samsung Members app in South Korea. The company apologized for the inconvenience and reassured owners that the display hardware itself remains perfectly healthy.
As Samsung stated in its official notice, “This phenomenon can be resolved through a software calibration fix. If you visit a national service center, you can receive immediate complimentary calibration service regardless of your product’s remaining usage period, and same-day processing is available.”
Free service center fixes now, OTA patch coming soon
For users who want an immediate solution, Samsung is offering free, same-day display calibration at any official Samsung service center. The company notes that technicians will perform this complimentary service regardless of whether the phone’s original warranty is still active.
If you would rather avoid a trip to a physical store, Samsung is also working on a remote solution. The manufacturer confirmed that it is preparing an over-the-air (OTA) software update that will apply the exact same calibration fix directly to affected phones.
Samsung hasn’t provided an exact release date for the software rollout, though. However, speculation points to the upcoming August 2026 security patch as a likely candidate for the fix.
Either way, Galaxy S26 Ultra owners won’t have to deal with a red screen for much longer.
