The Samsung SmartThings app s getting an update on the horizon, and that update reportedly includes a handful of UI element changes and some general user experience improvements to look forward to. One of the major changes is going to be the background that dynamically changes based on different factors. There are more than a few things that can alter its visual state according to the details in the report.
This includes the time of day, with different colors applied for morning, daytime, evening, and nighttime. It’s also possible to change based on the location, and it comes preloaded with 9 live wallpaper visuals to choose from, with the option to swap one of those out with your own image if you prefer to use those instead. And you can swap back and forth if you want.
The SmartThings app redesign is currently in testing
Samsung is currently testing the new app design with the report noting that this update hasn’t been released yet. SamMobile speculates that it might be released after One UI 9.0 is released in a stable form for compatible Galaxy devices.
When the redesign does launch through this update, users will get a lot more out of it than just dynamic backgrounds. For example, a SmartThings now card will be visible at the top of the home tab that will show the user a variety of suggestions on what to do in the app, and you’ll be able to disable this if you want. A main benefit of this new SmartThings now card is the ability for the app to recommend features for users to try out. This would be specifically for features that have yet to be used.
There will also be three widgets available for the homescreen of the phone. This includes widgets for routines as well as device control and screen device control.
