GTA 6 is one of this year’s most anticipated games for many, and while that hype will probably remain very high, it’s unlikely that fans will be happy about the use of AI to power the game world’s NPCs. To be fair, AI has been the driving force of game NPCs for quite some time. It’s just that now, AI has a much more negative persona because of everything it’s negatively affecting. That being said, it still doesn’t make consumers any less annoyed or upset when game studios use AI for any form of game development.
The silver lining here perhaps is that AI doesn’t seem to have been used for the creation of game assets or anything like that. Instead, Rockstar is using it to make the NPCs come alive in a way that makes the game world feel more immersive.
The GTA 6 game world will be “heavily driven by artificial intelligence” with AI NPCs having their own daily routines
The true extent of GTA 6’s features and all that comes with the game isn’t truly known, and gamers won’t have a complete picture of what the game feels like until they play it later this year. However, some of the game’s details have been posted alongside the pre-order listings for the game on Brazilian online retail site KaBum!. The listing stated that NPCs will have their own routines based on advanced AI. These advancements will generate “organic random events around the map. The big innovation is in the integration of in-game social networks: your character’s cell phone consumes viral videos in real time, allowing you to follow Vice City influencers and discover secret side missions through the networks,” the description read.
It’s worth noting that this description doesn’t seem to be available on the site any longer. So it could have been removed. That would make sense, as Rockstar may not have been ready to make that information public.
Whatever the case, it seems the world of GTA 6 may have a thriving community of NPC characters that bring the game to life in unexpected ways. GTA 6 will be released on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
