Pixel VIPs is designed to help you stay closely connected with your important contacts. That can include family and friends. As the name suggests, it’s exclusive to Pixel phones. After the big Pixel Feature Drop update to eligible Pixel devices last week, Google is beginning to roll out Pixel VIPs 2.0, and there are a lot of changes here, in addition to the widget redesign.
Google Pixel VIPs 2.0 brings a fresh redesign to its widget
With Pixel VIPs 2.0, tapping a contact in the widget now opens a fullscreen layout instead of a button sheet over the home screen. This fullscreen view was previously accessible by swiping up. That said, the old design was easier for one-handed usage, as the calls and messages were easier to reach at the bottom of the screen.
Besides this, there are other changes. This includes a pencil icon in the top-right corner that lets you quickly edit in Google Contacts. The call, message, video, and contact buttons now also use outline-style icons. Google has moved the “Local updates” card above “Last connection,” while “Notes” is now the final section, as Pixel VIPs has removed the media and place recommendations.
A new pill-shaped switcher
The biggest change is a new pill-shaped switcher. This shows all your VIPs, letting you quickly switch between contacts without returning to the home screen. That said, 9to5Google reports that the redesigned widget itself isn’t live yet after updating to Pixel VIPs 2.0. However, a preview shows the new layout with “space for quick actions” that lets you call or message directly from the widget. This can be quite handy for easier access.
