This time around, we’re comparing two budget phones from Samsung. It’s a Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A36 comparison. The former was announced back in March this year and became available in April. The Galaxy A36 is its predecessor, which arrived in March last year. These two phones actually have a lot in common, which should make this a rather interesting comparison.
As we usually do, we will first list the specs of both smartphones. Following that, we will compare their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. Samsung really didn’t change much from one model to the next, though there are several notable upgrades to note. Let’s get to it.

Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Design
When it comes to design, differentiating between them is not easy. There are some slight differences in the design of the rear camera island, but you really have to look for it. The Galaxy A36 has thicker rings around its camera sensors than the Galaxy A37, simply for design purposes. Other than that, the two phones are basically the same design-wise. They do come in different colors, though, of course.
Both smartphones have a flat display with rather thin bezels around them. There is also a display camera hole centered up top on both smartphones. The power/lock button is located on the right side, along with the volume up and down keys. The frame on both phones is flat, and it’s made out of plastic in both cases.
When it comes to the back side, you’ll notice that the backplate is flat on both devices. That backplate is made out of glass. There are three cameras included on the back of both phones. They are placed inside a pill-shaped camera island in both instances. They’re also vertically aligned and protrude on the back. You’ll notice an LED flash next to the cameras. The dimensions of these two phones are identical, while the Galaxy A37 is only 1 gram heavier. That phone also has better water and dust protection thanks to an IP68 certification. The Galaxy A37 is IP67 certified.
Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Display
These two smartphones have the exact same displays. We’re looking at a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel here, with a 120Hz refresh rate. Its peak brightness is 1,900 nits, while the screen-to-body ratio is at around 87%. The resolution you’re getting here is 2340 x 1080 pixels, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection is used on both displays.

When it comes to the actual use of both displays, things are essentially the same. Samsung not only used the same panels, but also tuned in the same manner. Both displays are quite good, especially for the price. You’re getting a good resolution, good viewing angles, and the viewing angles are not bad either. Both displays are quite punchy as well, though you can tweak all that in the settings.
Both of them also offer a high refresh rate. Yes, there are many better displays available out there, but you have to keep the price tag of these two phones in mind. You can’t really get the best out there for the price, that’s for sure. All in all, these two displays are more than good enough.
Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Performance
The Samsung Galaxy A37 is fueled by the Samsung Exynos 1480 processor. That’s a 4nm chip from the company, and it’s backed by 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Samsung also opted to use UFS 3.1 flash storage in this phone. Do note that the storage is not expandable here, so choose carefully.
The Samsung Galaxy A36, on the other hand, is fueled by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. That is a 4nm processor from Qualcomm, and it’s one of the company’s budget offerings. It is paired with 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 flash storage. The storage is not expandable here either.
When it comes to performance, neither of these phones offers flagship-level performance, of course. The Galaxy A37 does have the edge, however. It is visibly faster when it comes ot day-to-day performance, and it can also do a better job in the gaming department. Faster RAM storage do play a significant role here. Just don’t expect too much and you’ll be fine. These are budget phones after all.
Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Battery
The battery inside of these two smartphones is also the same. Both of them include a 5,000mAh unit. With that being said, the battery life is not exactly the same. The Galaxy A37 does have the advantage in that regard and can offer up to around an hour of extra screen-on time in comparison. That can be attributed to the SoC, RAM, and flash storage. It’s anyone’s guess, but the Galaxy A37 does include more power-efficient RAM and storage.
With that being said, neither phone is great in terms of battery life. There are phones out there that offer much better battery life, and that goes for both phones in this price range and those that are much more expensive. Samsung really needs to make a jump to silicon-carbon tech so that it can keep up with the competition.
When it comes to charging, things are on the same level. Both of these smartphones support 45W wired charging, while wireless charging is not supported. They can both be fully charged in around an hour and 10-15 minutes if you use a compatible charger. Do note that neither phone ships with a charger, though, so you’ll need to get one separately.
Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Cameras
Out of the three cameras on the back, two of them are identical across the two phones. Both of them include an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 1/4.0-inch sensor size. So that’s quite a tiny sensor. There is also a 5-megapixel macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture included on both of these smartphones. 5MP macro cameras aren’t all that useful, needless to say.

When it comes to the main camera, the Galaxy A37 has a 50-megapixel unit with an f/1.8 aperture and a 1/1.56-inch sensor size. Both OIS and PDAF are supported here. The Galaxy A36, on the other hand, includes a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 1/1.96-inch sensor size. It also supports both OIS and PDAF. This is where the Galaxy A37 has the edge.
Images that the Galaxy A37 can provide with its main camera are a bit sharper and more detailed than the ones coming from the Galaxy A36. The difference is even more noticeable when you shoot in low light, which is not surprising considering that the Galaxy A37 has a larger camera sensor. Don’t expect miracles, though, as neither of these two devices is a camera smartphone or anything close to it.
Audio
Both smartphones feature stereo speakers. The ones on the Galaxy A37 are a bit louder, but the difference is minimal. The sound output from both sets of speakers is solid; it’s not great, but not bad either.
There is no audio jack on either of these two smartphones. If you need to connect your wired headphones, however, both phones have Type-C ports that support wired audio connectivity. Alternatively, Bluetooth 5.4 is supported by both phones.
