Samsung continues the process of expanding its latest major firmware update globally. Following a successful rollout for the Galaxy S25 series and an initial launch in South Korea, Samsung’s stable One UI 8.5 update has officially reached Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and even Galaxy S24 FE users in the United States.
What’s new in Galaxy S24 One UI 8.5 for US users? Features and changes
This update does not jump to a new Android version—that milestone is reserved for the upcoming One UI 9. Still, it is far from a minor patch weighing a substantial 4GB, signaling a significant overhaul of the user experience.
The One UI 8.5 highlight for many will be the enhanced Galaxy AI capabilities. Beyond the intelligence boost, the update introduces a more flexible Quick Panel, giving users deeper control over their most-used settings. Personalization enthusiasts will also notice new font and placement options for the lock screen clock.
Bridging the ecosystem gap
Perhaps the most practical addition in this release is the expanded support for Quick Share. As previously seen on newer models, the Galaxy S24 now gets Apple’s ecosystem through AirDrop file-sharing interoperability. This makes sharing photos and documents with friends who use iPhones a much smoother experience (via SamMobile).
How to get the update
As of now, the rollout has begun specifically for carrier-locked models on Verizon’s network (firmware version S92xUSQU5DZDR). However, history suggests that other major carriers and factory-unlocked devices will follow suit shortly.
If you own a Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, and S24 FE, you can manually check for the One UI 8.5 download by heading to Settings > Software update. Because of the large file size, it is best to use a stable Wi-Fi connection. Samsung also recommends ensuring your device has at least 30% battery before starting the installation.
Meanwhile, Samsung is already working on One UI 9, its next major software update. In fact, the firm just announced the One UI 9 beta program for the Galaxy S26 series.
