Google Wallet is a universal digital wallet that’s compatible with most Android smartphones. The wallet can do so many things, such as store movie passes, payment cards, loyalty program details, etc. However, Google keeps improving its capabilities in every major update. Now, the company is adding a live flight tracking feature to its Google Wallet app.
Live flight tracking feature arrives in Google Wallet
As per the report, Google Wallet has now started showing the live status of the upcoming flights on the lockscreen and the notification panel. The feature is compatible with devices running Android 16 and above. Users who add their boarding pass details to the wallet will now get helpful notifications, including gate changes and updated boarding times.
The feature adds a persistent, glanceable interface that appears shortly before departure. A status bar icon appears with airline details and arrival estimates. Further, on the lockscreen and always-on display, the Google Wallet‘s live activity shows a moving progress bar with a plane icon. This allows users to monitor their journey without unlocking their phone, boosting overall convenience.
It will still fetch important travel details from Gmail
To further enhance the user experience, Google Wallet continues to fetch important travel details directly from Gmail. This ensures the user has access to important, up-to-date travel information. Moreover, if the user clicks on the live update, the app will open up the standard ticket page, where users can access their QR code and additional flight details.
The live flight tracking feature was originally teased by Google back in October 2025. Beyond flight tracking, the tech giant is reportedly working on support for train journeys and other time-based events. By combining all the important travel, payments, and other important details into one single app, Google wants to expand its ecosystem to become more cohesive. Lastly, the updated live tracking feature has started rolling out to all the eligible devices. You must ensure the app is updated to the latest version to access it.
