The first general Nintendo Direct of the year is coming and according to some new rumors, it’s coming up pretty soon. Like, so soon that fans will be eagerly taking their first look at some exciting upcoming games within a week. To be clear, their has already been a Nintendo Direct event in 2026. The distinction here is that this will be the first “general” Direct of the year.
What does it mean to be a “general” Nintendo Direct? Well, generally speaking, it’ll be a Direct showcase that covers a variety of Nintendo Switch 2 games that could include both highly anticipated first-party games and a mish mash of upcoming third-party games. So far, Nintendo hasn’t really announced any major new first-party games for the console. Unless you count Donkey Kong Bonanza, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, or Mario Kart World. No, we’re thinking more along the lines of a major mainline Mario game or a mainline Zelda game. Neither of which have seen the light of day yet for this console. However, it seems there may be a chance for them show up at the upcoming showcase.
The first general Nintendo Direct showcase will happen the week of June 8
Wile it’s not confirmed when the Direct will be happening, one of the latest rumors suggests that it’ll be happening on June 9. Wccftech reports that one insider thinks this will be the date, while others simply think it’ll happen sometime next week.
According to Nate The Hate on his podcast on YouTube, it’s said to have been stated by a source that the Direct is happening the week of June 8. It’s important to note that they don’t say it’s happening on June 8, just the week of. So this means the Direct could still go live on June 9. Which, coincidentally, is also the launch date of Destiny 2’s last-ever live service content update. You should hop in for that.
Keep in mind that Nintendo likes to sometimes surprise its fanbase with new info and announcements out of the blue. So there’s always a chance that the Direct showcase may simply happen without warning ahead of time. Nintendo made some of these announcements in its app earlier this year without actually putting out the announcement on socials. So that’s something to keep an eye out for.
