Motorola has started releasing the latest Android 17 update to its devices. The update will first land on its Signature series. Other eligible mid-range and flagship phones will get the OTA later. To begin with, the main focus of the Android 17 update is software usability. Motorola has refreshed the design of the Quick Settings by introducing larger touch targets and streamlined navigation. The home screen and display controls also receive refinements. The update enhances HDR brightness management. Accessibility settings for vision, scaling, and magnification are reorganized.
The Android 17 update also adds stackable widget support on the home screen. It also improves the connectivity experience. Users can use QR codes via Quick Share to let non-Android and iOS users download media through a web interface. Moreover, the tech giant is also adding a new diagnostics hub. It will allow users to check individual hardware components and review local system telemetry.
Security features and convenience are the main priority
Motorola has added a new AI-powered automated scam detection technology in the update. The system checks SMS, MMS, and RCS messages for possible phishing and alerts the user accordingly. If multiple failed attempts to unlock the device are registered, the system will automatically strengthen the device protection and reduce the sensitive notification visibility on the lock screen. The update also improves grouping and summaries for notifications.
Talking about the rollout plan, it remains less clear than the changelog. The officially shared eligibility list has several inconsistencies. It includes an unannounced Edge 70 Neo and Edge 70 Plus models and duplicate Edge 60 entries. That’s not all; recently launched devices such as the Edge 50 series, Edge 60 Neo, Razr 2024, and Moto G75 were also absent from the list despite the fact that they are under an active software support period.
