Our smartphones are huge distractions. They might be small, but they pack so many features and functions that you could easily spend hours staring at it and getting lost in it. That’s why in 2024, The Minimal Company designed the Minimal Phone. Now, they’re back and showing off the design of the Minimal Phone 2.
Minimal Phone 2 design revealed
Based on the renders in the video and on the company’s website, the Minimal Phone 2 design is quite a change from its predecessor. The first-gen Minimal Phone looked almost like an e-reader. It featured a blocky design with sharp corners and a physical keyboard. The Minimal Phone 2 still keeps the keyboard, but the overall design looks softer with gently-curved rounded edges. Now instead of an e-reader, it looks more like a BlackBerry.
There are other changes besides its physical appearance. The company has ditched the e-ink display and replaced it with OLED. This is kind of a shame. For starters, e-ink displays don’t look as nice compared to LCD or OLED, which makes it easier to skip social media or binge YouTube videos. E-ink is also more battery-friendly.
However, if you do miss the vibrant colorful displays of modern smartphones, then switching to OLED might make it more appealing. As for the rest of the specs, the phone still features a single rear-facing camera and a single front-facing one. There is also 5G support and the audio jack is gone.

Other distraction-free options
The Minimal Company isn’t the only company to come up with distraction-free phones. Not too long ago, the Light Phone Company launched the Light Flip. This is a phone designed like the flip phones from back in the day. However, this phone is more for hardcore users really looking to disconnect.
Unlike the Minimal Phone that runs on Android, the Light Flip doesn’t. Well, to be more specific, it runs on a heavily-modified version of Android that cuts out most of its features to be as distraction-free as possible. This is truly a phone for users who need to communicate but without the bells and whistles.
Honestly, it’s hard to imagine not using a smartphone these days. But if you think your phone usage has gotten out of hand, these are phones you could consider.
