Micron is reportedly warning consumers that RAM prices aren’t expected to go down until at least 2028, a sentiment that has been shared by other major brands for the past 6 months or so. Micron as well as Samsung and SKY Hynix have all expressed opinions on the longevity of the RAM crisis that’s been going on since late 2025, as have market analysts, with predictions hovering around 2027 and 2028 for the potential slow down.
Some companies have even reportedly set expectations to beyond 2030, though it’s unclear how close those predictions may actually come at the moment. Recently, Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra has stated that customers can be expected to pay higher prices in 2027 than they have in 2026.
Micron CEO says RAM prices are going up even more in 2027 as most its stock is gone
Speaking to investors during Micron’s Fiscal Year 2026 earnings call, Mehrotra says that he and the company expect demand for RAM to exceed supply both throughout 2027 and well into 2028. “In calendar 2027 as well as 2028, we see demand exceeding supply. In fact, we see greater tightness in the industry in 2027 and in 2028 versus 2026. Overall, supply-demand environment is only getting tighter.”
Mehrotra says there’s currently no line of sight on when the demand will decrease or the supply will increase, and that the way things are now is going to continue as needs of AI data centers continue to rise. In addition to higher RAM prices, the cost of products like laptops, smartphones, consoles, and desktops aren’t expected to decrease for quite some time. Many consumers electronics have gone up considerably over the past 10 months, including consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2, Valve’s Steam Machine gaming PC, and top phones from Google, such as the recently released Pixel 11 Pro XL.
