Smart glasses are having a massive moment right now. To keep it going, Meta is rolling out a heavy-hitting version 127 software update for its Ray-Ban Display smart glasses that brings a major change under the hood: a complete AI model swap to the latest Muse Spark AI.
The company promises this swap will deliver sharper answers and better daily suggestions. The glasses also gain a lot of clearer understanding of whatever you happen to be looking at through the lenses. According to Meta, the new model offers improved context awareness, clearer visual understanding of a user’s surroundings, and more relevant daily suggestions.
Tracing text on surfaces and voice integration for Threads
Alongside the new AI engine, the update expands input options for users in select regions. Participants in Meta’s early access program in the US and Canada can now use an upgraded Neural Handwriting feature via the Meta Neural Band wristband.
This option allows users to trigger Meta AI without saying “Hey Meta” out loud. Instead, users double-tap their thumb, select the write option on the display menu, and trace letters on any nearby surface with their finger. Then, the system will read the input silently.
Meta is also adding deeper hands-free integration with its social platforms. Wearers can now browse their Threads feeds, engage with posts, and share media entirely through voice commands. On Instagram, users can search for specific Reels, read comment threads, or upload photos directly to Instagram Instants. All they need to do is say commands like “Hey Meta, share an Instant.”
Daily lifestyle tools and surface-based input
The update expands on existing lens features. The list includes turn-by-turn walking navigation across US cities, live translation for 20 languages, and Spotify browsing. The new software adds real-time weather, stock market updates, and personal calendar data directly to the display. Lastly, users can also ask contextual daily questions, such as inquiring whether a specific ingredient is a good fiber source while cooking or locating nearby coffee shops with Wi-Fi.
