It’s been two years since Apple last refreshed its Mac mini computer. For those who have been eagerly waiting for an update, there is some good news. According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Mac mini refresh is close at hand.
Mac mini finally getting refreshed after two years
According to Gurman, Apple is getting ready to refresh the Mac mini after two years of zero updates to its hardware. In fact, the report suggests that it could take place before the iPhone 18 Pro event in September. Since Apple usually hosts its events early September, the refresh could be as soon as this week or next.
Now, the question is, what kind of hardware is Apple going with? We’re already this late into the year, so could Apple launch the Mac mini with existing M5 hardware, or hold out for the M6? According to the report, it is unclear as Apple has tested versions with the M5 and versions with the M6.
Fingers-crossed that it will launch with the M6 because it’s not a bad way to futureproof your purchase. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see. But if Gurman’s report is accurate, we won’t have to wait that much longer.
But how much will it cost?
That being said, price is going to be a concern. Back in June, Apple raised the prices of some of its products. However, the Mac mini was not part of it, but we’re skeptical that it will be able to avoid a price increase. The ongoing memory crisis has forced many companies to jack up the prices of their products, so we don’t see why the Mac mini will be spared.
The more important question is, how much more expensive will it be? One of the Mac mini’s selling points is that it’s a relatively affordable Mac computer compared to the Mac Studio and the iMac. Granted it isn’t quite as powerful, but it’s good enough for day-to-day tasks. If Apple increases the starting price, it could very quickly lose its value proposition.
In any case, take it with a grain of salt and hopefully we’ll have more details in the coming days.
