Lexar is celebrating its 30th anniversary at IFA 2026 with a sleek new hardware lineup led by the Lexar Muse Ultra-Slim Portable SSD. Designed to clean up mobile filming setups and get rid of awkward cable clutter, this card-like drive pairs a unibody metal chassis with a clever magnetic system that snaps right onto the back of MagSafe-compatible iPhones.
The Muse measures roughly 3.8 mm at its thickest point and tapers down to just 1 mm at the edge. For its build, Lexar relied on high-density NAND stacking and a custom ultra-thin PCB structure. The device connects using Lexar’s proprietary PogoPin interface alongside a SnapLink Magnetic Cable held in place by N52 neodymium magnets.
Performance-wise, the drive reaches read speeds up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds up to 1,000 MB/s over USB-C. This enables mobile creators to record Apple ProRes 4K video at 120 fps straight to external storage. Lexar plans to release the drive in 512GB and 1TB capacities starting in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Next-gen AI Storage Core and 11 GB/s concepts
Lexar also showcased major updates to its AI Storage Core architecture tailored for compact devices running local AI. The showcase included concept designs for an AI-grade Gen5 SSD and an AI-grade Gen5 Storage Stick. They are capable of delivering up to 11 GB/s of bandwidth for rapid model switching and low-latency data retrieval.
Under the hood, the system combines Longsys’s self-developed 5nm SPU (Storage Processing Unit) controller with Lexar Luma Bridge technology. Built on a DRAM-less architecture, this integrated hardware-software setup manages heavy Mixture-of-Experts AI models and expanding KV Caches through predictive prefetching. This cuts local DRAM requirements by roughly 40% while maintaining performance in thermally restricted builds.
Expanding storage solutions for commercial PCs and EVs
It’s worth noting that Lexar is also extending its storage expertise into enterprise systems and automotive electronics. For device partners and commercial PC builders, the company presented an expanded client SSD portfolio featuring flexible PCIe Gen3 and Gen4 options. They will be available across various capacity and performance targets to tackle every need.
To meet the increasing requirements of electric vehicle owners, Lexar has launched its Dashcam USB Flash Drive Series. These drives are designed to support continuous loop recording, multi-channel video capture, and Sentry Mode features. As they are engineered with high-endurance firmware and a low-profile design, these specialized drives handle extreme cabin temperatures to provide a much more reliable alternative to standard consumer flash drives.
