The much-anticipated Googlebooks are finally nearing their launch. We’ll see hardware from Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, and HP. While Google has remained tight-lipped about in-depth design highlights and hardware details, we’ve come across multiple leaks that have filled in some of the gaps. In the latest, Lenovo’s dedicated stylus, branded as the “Lenovo Pen Pro for Googlebook,” has appeared on the Bluetooth SIG.
Lenovo Pen Pro for Googlebook makes a Bluetooth SIG appearance
This follows an earlier listing on the FCC platform with the model number A5M-SE01. The listing suggests this isn’t a generic stylus with a fancy name. It’s apparently a premium, feature-packed digital pen that’s designed to complement the new Googlebook. That’s a neat bonus for those looking forward to the new hardware.
If you’re wondering why, well, for years, stylus support on ChromeOS devices has largely been a mixed bag. The HP Chromebook x2 11 is one of the few exceptions. Users have had to deal with replaceable AAAA batteries, small built-in styluses that aren’t comfortable for long writing sessions, or weird charging solutions. The Lenovo Pen Pro for Googlebook wants to fix those shortcomings after so many years.
Based on the universal USI standard, the Pen Pro has a full-sized design that attaches to the top of the Googlebook Duet m magnetically and can reportedly charge wirelessly. The design from the Bluetooth SIG also matches the rear chassis and camera layout seen in leaked renders of Lenovo’s tablet. This suggests that Lenovo designed the pen for the Duet m.
Gestures and wireless charging
Besides the standard writing and pressure sensitivity, the pen reportedly brings some extra features to the table. The Pen Pro reportedly has a top eraser and a side button with gesture support. Squeezing the button and circling something on the screen activates Circle to Search. Double-tapping it takes a screenshot. Swiping up or down along the side button lets you scroll through webpages, PDFs, or presentations.
A single tap with the pen tip lets you select items. Holding the side button starts quick Bluetooth pairing with nearby Googlebooks. The Pen Pro isn’t the only accessory that Lenovo is preparing for Googlebook’s ecosystem. The company is also working on the AI Mouse M830. These products are apparently designed to work with Googlebook’s hybrid desktop-and-touch experience.
